September 2003

Internet has been down
Posted Monday, September 29, 2003, 5:26 PM, CDT by Hank
I ran out of internet hours before the end of the month...should be back up tomorrow. (I'm at work right now).

Alyssa's Birthday went really well. Of course I have a bunch of pictures to post. (I'll have them uploaded tomorrow.) I've never seen a kid so excited to turn 4 and have a party. She kept reminding us all that morning that she was 4 about every 5 minutes. She had a Strawberry Shortcake themed party, had some friends over, and even had a huge dinausaur bouncer to play on. She kept saying, "This is the best birthday ever!"

Today is my Great Aunt Mary Brown's Birthday and my Uncle Gary & Aunt Mary Steinmeyer's Anniversary. Cool.

B'day wishes

Steve Hill's Birthday today. Happy Birthday.

That one's over

Actually ended at 8:00. I'm at work now. Didn't appear to be any damage done on the drive in. Typhoon season is supposed to end in November. So we still might see more. Whoo-hoo!

Now it's Typhoon Choi-Wan
Posted Friday, September 19, 2003, 4:03 PM, CDT by Hank
Choi-Wan has gotten stronger and moved north of us now, but we are still in her wake. Winds got up to about 90 miles per hour briefly last night at about midnight. (Slept right throught it!) The last forecast shows that winds should die down below 58 miles per hour about 9:00 am. That was nothin!

Tropical Storm Choi-Wan

Well this thing moved in really fast on us and got here a day early. The eye is over us right over us right now and may reach typhoon strength by the time it heads north...if so it'll rock us pretty good.

At any rate were are currently much better of than those on the East Coast getting hit by Hurricane Isabel.

I tell ya what, this cycle if exercise/typhoon/exercise/typhoon for the past month is really wearing on me!

This one is supposed to reach typhoon strength by the time it gets here in a couple days. Here we go again.

Screaming Maemi--NOT!
Posted Thursday, September 11, 2003, 6:19 PM, CDT by Hank
Typhoon's over for Okinawa. Maemi took the wide way around us and we caught a little bit of her outer edge last night as the storm finally went north towards Korea and mainland Japan. Winds here got just barely above 50 miles per hour for about 8 hours during the night.

Unfortunatley some places were not so lucky. Lots of injuries and a few deaths on islands south of Okinwana.

Uploaded few more pictures

Some of Ashlyn. Dawn felt the need to do a photo shoot with her for something to do while we wait for the storm. They are very cute so go check them out.

OK, where's the wind?
Posted Wednesday, September 10, 2003, 5:06 AM, CDT by Hank
OK, still no storm...had some breeze, but the typhoon is just kinda sitting off shore, barely touching us. It has gone more west than north, and if it keeps this up we might have already seen the worst of it. We'll just have to wait and see.

Huge Typhoon Update
Posted Tuesday, September 9, 2003, 9:54 AM, CDT by Hank
Maemi is really movin! Now considered a SUPER TYPHOON, she's supposed to hit here in the morning--24 hours earlier than originally expected. The winds are estimated to be about 30%-50% stronger than Typhoon Etau. (By the time the typhoon is closest to us, it's max winds are estimated to be 170 gusting to 195 miles per hour!!!) One other difference to expect...instead of being hammered for about 20 hours, Super Typhoon Maemi is supposed to really pound us for about 48 hours! Last I saw the storm is gonna swoop up from the south and go north to past the western side of Okinawa (much like the last typhoon).

This is gonna be a helluva ride.

Screaming Maemi

Another typhoon is heading towards Okinawa. This one looks a lot like the last one we had--Same path.

Typhoon Maemi should arrive here Thursday morning, but it's looking like we might avoid a direct hit and expected the worst winds to be about 60 mph.

I've put a link to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center Page on the "Link Exchange" Page if you wanna see the current forecast and pictures of that storm as it progresses.

Viral Meningitis

A.K.A. Septic Meningitis. This what I was diagnosed with, but to me it was just a continuous 70-hour-long migrain-like head ache that thankfully, I was on Percoset for most of.

I went into the Camp Lester Emergency Room Tuesday night (2 SEP) and just got out today (5 SEP). Now I start 5 days of "convalescent leave" (sick leave) from work, during a base excercise. Kinda glad though--I'm really weak from all that laying down and sleeping.
