New addition.
Posted Monday, May 4, 2009, 1:17 PM, CDT by Dawn | We have a new addition to our home. I don’t mean the baby, I mean a new room. Hank built a temporary wall in the garage. He turned about 2/3 of our garage into a family room. It looks really nice. We put a couch and tv in there. We also put a small table and chairs for the girls and a bunch of Amiya’s toys. We added about 200 sq ft to our house. This is a part of our SUMMER SANITY PROJECT. With a small house and so many kids we needed an extra space that was out of the way. We want the kids to have a cool and comfortable place to hang out and still some quiet when Amiyah and the baby are sleeping. This has also minimized the mess in the main part of my house. Hank did a fantastic job on the wall. He even made the middle section into a huge door that locks. This is so we can access the rest of the garage from the house. We leave the laundry room door open and that seems to cool the room very well. The kids love it and spend time in there every day. We organized and cleaned the other side of the garage so we can open the garage door and the kids have easy access to their bikes, water table and outdoor toys. We have just a month of school left and less than 2 months until baby without a name gets here. The kids are all doing great. Hank is working a lot. The next couple of months are going to be VERY busy for him, as he prepares for an inspection. The guy who was in charge before Hank left quite a mess. We are officially DEBT FREE! We paid off our van and another small loan we had. Now we are working on an emergency fund and opening up a Roth IRA and college funds for the girls. Jordan is too old to really save a decent amount. He is planning on joining the Navy anyway so I think we may be off the hook with him. I have already talked to him about it. I have also told him as soon as he is an adult and is working he needs to start saving for his retirement. I have told him this dozens of times. I then informed him to stay out of debt. Every generation gets worse with debt. Our grandparents had the right idea. I have a MOPS meeting this morning. I only have 2 meetings left until we break for the summer. I found out that since I am on the board that I can go to the convention in Sep. It is in Nashville. It is a 3 day conference. I hear it a blast. You get to stay at a resort hotel. MOPS pays for hotel, food and air fair. I can take the new baby with me. Several Christian rock artists will be performing. Anyway I wasn’t going to go but I think I may consider it. How many free vacations does a mother of 5 get? Even though I have to take the new baby. As Aunt Mary knows, if you only have to take care of one child it is a vacation. Well love you all.
